Lamps to light up your life

In interior design, lighting is one of the most integral elements within a space: it defines the experience that we want to create.

When a room isn’t quite pulling together, lighting is often one of the main problem solvers. Whether thats by bringing in some much needed colour, interest or texture in a beautiful table lamp, a lonely corner that needs a masculine floor lamp to hold its own or a wow centralised pendant to hug the room together.

Our most favourite light source is the beloved table lamp and so in this blog post, in no particular order, we’re going to share some that we love and recommend!

Perisphere Table Lamp, OKA

There is nothing quite like a big sculptural lamp base to create a statement. We particularly like this hand-carved solid wood lamp because of it’s curvaceous form! This beauty is 54cm in height, so it’s curves soften it.

This lamp is versatile and could work in a number of rooms in the house and would suit plain, semi-plain or patterned shades, Colourful or neutral! Its pretty hefty and spectacular, so priced fairly.

How do you choose the right lampshade?

The lampshade should compliment the base and vice versa. You don’t want the shade to drown or dominate or equally look like it’s too small and a bit pathetic. This image perfectly illustrates the ratio of base to shade!

Vintage Toleware Lamps, Various Sources

The term tôle, derived from the French tôle peinte, "painted sheet metal". Toleware is beautifully and often intricately painted metal. Historically this was done to prevent common household objects from rusting. Lighting being one of them! It can be very reasonably priced for antique lighting. This one pictured, with a Matilda Goad shade, is a perfect lamp to add a touch of whimsical softness to a space.

These kinds of lamps are available to buy from a mix of places - Ebay, Vinterior, Pamono, Etsy and vintage markets. Rife in Italian and French flea markets if you ever get the chance to go!

From £40
